ARCTIC began life as an ice-class salvage tug from Schichau Unterweser and was transformed into an explorer yacht; her latest rebuild dates from 2025. She has cruised Antarctica, Alaska, the Galapagos, French Polynesia and the Mediterranean.
For Svalbard she is the obvious choice: built for ice, with seven tenders, a dive centre, a library, a cinema and a beach house. Her draft of 7.2 metres asks for care in some fjord anchorages; the pack-ice edge and Hinlopen Strait are her element.
